For most people, the holidays mean full tables, familiar traditions, and time with the people they love. When someone you love has died, those same days can feel like the hardest of the year. The empty chair, the songs on the radio, the ornament they always hung: grief has a way of showing up everywhere this time of year.
If you are dreading the season ahead, you are not alone, and you do not have to figure it out by yourself. On Saturday, November 14, our GriefShare ministry is hosting Surviving the Holidays, a two-hour seminar for anyone facing the holidays after a loss.
A Morning for the Hardest Season
This seminar is built for one purpose: helping you get through Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s when your heart is heavy. You will hear from people who have walked through the holidays after losing a loved one, and you will spend time with others who understand exactly what this season feels like.
You will leave with practical ideas for questions like these:
- What do I do with our family traditions now?
- How do I answer when people ask how I’m doing?
- Is it okay to skip a gathering, or to change how we celebrate?
- Where can I find hope when the season feels empty?
Who Should Come
This seminar is for anyone grieving the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, friend, or other loved one, whether the loss was recent or years ago. You do not need to be part of our weekly GriefShare group, and you do not need to be a member of our church. There is no pressure to talk. You are welcome to simply come and listen.
The cost is $20 per person. If that is a barrier for you, please don’t let it keep you away. Scholarships are available; just ask and we will take care of you.
If you know someone who is dreading the holidays this year, consider inviting them, or offer to come along with them. Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is sit beside someone who is hurting.
Grief Doesn’t Take a Holiday
Our weekly GriefShare group meets on Mondays at 9:30 AM here in Gold Canyon. If the seminar is a help to you, we would love for you to keep walking with us. Visit our GriefShare page to learn more or to reach out to our group leader, Ina, who will contact you personally.
